Schumann & Heine

This project introduces ’20 Lieder und Gesänge aus dem Lyrischen Intermezzo’, the first and original version of Schumann’s song cycle which later became the well-known ‘Dichterliebe’. Together with musicologist Renate Hilmar-Voit I began a detective hunt for the circumstances which led to Schumann’s revision of the original cycle and the alterations he made till it became the final ‘Dichterliebe’. Here you will also find the complete lyrics of the 20 songs in their original German version as well as their English translations. view project

Walt Whitman

This project presents a biography, timeline of the ‘Great Bard of Democracy’ and extensive notes on his relation to and influence on his contemporaries in literature and music. My project on Walt Whitman is closely related to my project on American Song and also includes recitals with songs on texts by the great poet. view project
